How early can I enter the Lace House on the day of my event?
When you rent the Lace House, gardens or Mansion Mall, you rent it from 9:00am until 11:00pm. Set up can begin as early as 9:00am the day of your event.
What is the Carriage House?
The Carriage House is located behind the Caldwell-Boylston House. It contains stables, storage and two restrooms. It is rarely needed but comes with renting the gardens for restroom use only. It cannot accommodate any type of indoor event.
Where will my guests park?
Free weekend and post business hours parking is available along Calhoun Street. Guests are also welcome to park on the mansion side of the curb along Lincoln Street and Gadsden Street after hours and on weekends without a parking pass. You will notice signs that read, "Parking by city permit only," but this is only enforced during regular business hours. There are also other meter parking spots on Lincoln Street and Richland Street.
If your event is taking place during regular business hours on a weekday, we will coordinate to either have meters bagged for your guests or we will keep ticketers from monitoring cars in the area surrounding the Mansion Complex.
Do you have an "in-house" caterer or do I need to choose my own?
We do not provide catering at the Lace House. You may pick your own caterer as long as the caterer can provide basic catering requirements. For details, please see "Your Event, Catering at the Lace House."
How late can I have my band or DJ play music for my event?
An outdoor band or DJ must stop playing by 10:00pm. This is a community ordinance.
Who is responsible for setting up our tables and chairs?
Your caterer is responsible for all setup and cleanup. You can work with your caterer to decide who will do what.
Who is responsible for cleanup after the event?
The caterer or whomever you designate is responsible for cleanup after your event. Your caterer must dispose of all leftover food, trash and alcohol after the event. There is a dumpster located in the circular driveway behind the Lace House. If there is any food left on the floor or spills, the caterer must clean these. A more thorough cleaning will take place the following business day by Mansion Staff. No valuables should be left in the house after the event. If necessary, florists can pick up arrangements the following business day. All arrangements should be left in the basement next to the bathrooms.
If I am having my wedding ceremony on the grounds, is it possible for me to have my rehearsal on the grounds the day before?
We do our best to make it possible for you to have your rehearsal on the grounds the day before your event. The rehearsal can take place after business hours and is free of charge.
Are candles allowed inside the Lace House?
Dripless and votive candles are permitted.
Can I have red wine served at my event?
Yes, red wine is permitted.
Do any tables or chairs come with the rental of the house?
Rental of the Lace House includes the use of ten 60" round tables as well as 100 chivari chairs. These tables do not include linens. The main level of the Lace House is furnished with a 48" round for your cake or other food as well as a long dining room table. Both these tables include linens. There is also an antique piano brides can use for gifts. A small marble top table can be moved to the porch for a guest book. There are nine chairs scattered around the upstairs.
Can furniture or paintings be moved?
Furniture and paintings cannot be moved. Only the small, marble-top table can be moved.
How do I book my event?
To hold a date for your rental, you must complete and turn in the rental packet (found under "Your Event") as well as a $500.00 deposit to hold your date. The deposit will go towards your balance.
When is my final payment due?
Final payments are due two weeks before your event. You must also include a separate check for $500.00 for your damage deposit. This check will not be deposited and will be voided after the event as long as there are no damages during your rental.
